Mileage Calculator

Trip mileage tells you how efficiently the car ran on a specific drive — not the brochure figure from the showroom.

About this calculator

Trip mileage tells you how efficiently the car ran on a specific drive — not the brochure figure from the showroom. Log distance and fuel at the pump and you get km/L and L/100 km you can compare month to month.

Enter distance in kilometres, fuel used in litres for that trip, and an optional reimbursement rate per km for travel claims. The calculator returns km/L, L/100 km, and total reimbursement when a rate is set.

For best accuracy, use the full-tank method: fill up, reset trip meter, drive, fill again, divide distance by litres added. Short city hops read worse than highway cruising. For fuel spend in rupees, use the [[fuel-cost]] calculator with price per litre. For long-term efficiency tracking, compare with the [[gas-mileage]] tool. Business drivers often keep a logbook — this gives one trip's numbers instantly.

Common uses

  • Logging km/L after a highway or city trip
  • Calculating employer travel reimbursement for a site visit
  • Comparing efficiency before and after a service
  • Splitting fuel cost fairly on a shared road trip
  • Documenting mileage for freelance client billing

Frequently asked questions

How is km/L calculated?

Divide kilometres driven by litres of fuel used on that same trip. Example: 320 km on 24 L = 13.33 km/L, or about 7.5 L/100 km.

What is a good km/L for Indian cars?

Small petrol hatchbacks often return 14–18 km/L on highways. Diesels and CNG can do better. Heavy traffic in metros may drop below 10 km/L.

How does reimbursement per km work?

Many employers pay a fixed rate per km for official travel using a personal vehicle — e.g. ₹12/km × 320 km = ₹3,840. Policies vary; some pay fuel receipts instead.

Should I use trip meter or GPS distance?

Odometer or trip meter matches what the car actually rolled. GPS is fine when the odometer is unreliable. Round-trip errands: sum all legs in one fuel fill calculation.

How is this different from the gas mileage calculator?

This tool takes distance and fuel directly for one trip plus optional reimbursement. The [[gas-mileage]] calculator focuses on efficiency comparisons and annual fuel patterns.
