Percentile Calculator

Percentile calculator finds the value at any rank in your dataset.

About this calculator

Percentile calculator finds the value at any rank in your dataset. Paste exam scores, sales figures, response times, or lab measurements, then enter the percentile you need — 25th (Q1), 50th (median), 90th, 99th, etc.

Indian competitive exams report percentiles (JEE, CAT, NEET) to show rank relative to all test-takers. A 95th percentile score means you beat 95% of candidates. In business, the 90th percentile customer order value tells you what your top 10% spend.

Use with [[quartile-iqr]] for box-plot statistics, [[mean-median-mode]] for central tendency, and [[z-score]] to standardize a single value against the distribution. For sample-size planning see [[sample-size]].

Common uses

  • Teacher finding 90th percentile score on a class test out of 100
  • Data analyst benchmarking API latency at P95 and P99
  • MBA applicant interpreting CAT sectional percentile
  • Doctor checking growth chart percentile for child height data
  • Quality engineer setting control limits at 95th percentile defect rate

Frequently asked questions

What is the 90th percentile of CAT exam scores?

It is the score below which 90% of test-takers fall. If the 90th percentile is 85 marks, scoring above 85 puts you in the top 10%. Enter your mock-test score distribution to find class-level percentiles.

How is percentile different from percentage score?

Percentage is your raw score out of total marks. Percentile is your rank relative to others. Scoring 70% might be 99th percentile in a hard exam or 40th percentile in an easy one.

What percentile is the median?

The median equals the 50th percentile — half the values are below and half above. For even-sized datasets the calculator interpolates between the two middle values.

Can I find the 95th percentile for server response times?

Yes. Paste latency measurements in milliseconds and enter 95. The result is the P95 latency — the value exceeded only 5% of the time. SRE teams use P95 and P99 for SLA monitoring.
